Experienced Mechanical Engineer

Experienced Mechanical Engineer

Qualifications include:

  • 3+ years prior experience in the design of HVAC, plumbing/piping and fire protection systems.
  • Experience designing systems in Healthcare, Education, Commercial Office, Government, or Industrial facilities is desirable.
  • Professional License (PE), depending on years of experience.
  • Graduate from an ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering (Mechanical Emphasis) or Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Emphasis) program.
  • Experience with Revit and/or AutoCad software with preference towards experience with REVIT software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and work ethic.
  • PC experience in a Windows-based environment; working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, email, web-enabled applications, and database software.

Responsibilities will vary based on experience level and may include:

  • HVAC system calculations and design.
  • Ductwork sizing and layout.
  • Evaluation and comparison of systems to meet project requirements.
  • Selection and scheduling of equipment.
  • Plumbing/piping system layout and documentation.
  • Fire protection system design and layout.
  • Documentation of design using Revit MEP.

Experienced Electrical Engineer

Qualifications include:

  • Degree from an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering (Electrical Emphasis) or Architectural Engineering (Electrical Emphasis) program.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a consulting engineer or design/build engineer. Healthcare design experience is a plus.
  • Professional Engineering license preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Autodesk (Revit) software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and work ethic.
  • Experience in a Windows-based environment; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software products including spreadsheets, email, and web-enabled applications.
  • Knowledge and mastery of materials, methods, and tools used in the production of technical plans and specifications used for construction.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools used in the construction of electrical systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings.
  • Proven leadership ability

Responsibilities will vary based on experience level and may include:

  • Complete electrical design for assigned projects.
  • Adept at conceptual design and ability to make major design decisions independently.
  • Proven ability to plan work, assign duties to junior staff, and to manage assigned budget.
  • Proven ability to work on a multi-discipline team, including architectural structural, mechanical, technology as well as equipment suppliers and other consultants.
  • Maintain project design notebook and other permanent project documentation.
  • Review correspondence and design notes and calculations prepared by junior staff.
  • Works with the Electrical Department Manager on project staffing requirements and training needs.
  • Attends project meetings and completes meeting minutes. Also assigns junior staff to attend meetings and provides mentoring and oversite.
  • Assists in quality control management, including project checking (both formal and informal).
  • Active client relationship management, including preparation of proposals and presentations.
  • Identifies prospective clients, assists in business development efforts to develop new clients, and develops future projects with existing clients.

Design Intern Responsibilities

  • General
    • Serve as a resource for the development and documentation of project design work.
    • Be proficient in all software platforms including REVIT, CAD, Design Master, Bluebeam and Office.
    • Participate in weekly department scheduling meetings.
    • Participate in monthly department meetings.
    • Utilize the EOS process to establish goals, identify issues, establish priorities, and solve problems.
    • Track and document software or process issues and work with supervisor to address them.
    • Communicate regularly and effectively with their direct supervisor.
    • Coordinate deadlines with designers and be available to work in excess of 40 hours per week (upon manager approval) as required to meet deadlines.
    • Monitor workload projections in Ajera and CAD hour projection spreadsheet. Provide feedback to supervisor and staff requesting assistance as deadlines shift, priorities change or markups are not being provided. Address this proactively to allow for as much time as possible to rectify the situation.
    • Assist department manager or CAD / BIM manager in other tasks or special projects.
    • Follow all BSE processes and standards.
    • Complete project specific scorecards.
  • Oversight and Reporting
    • Will be a direct report to the mechanical department manager or team leader.
    • BIM / CAD manager will also oversee them to ensure they are following BSE processes and standards.
  • Education and training program
    • Work with supervisor to develop and follow an annual training plan.
    • Complete and review competencies spreadsheet on at least a quarterly basis.
    • Collaborate within your discipline for education on the various systems and equipment you will be drafting.
    • Work with the BIM / CAD manager to refine and optimize your techniques to increase productivity and effectiveness.
  • Design Intern – Primary Roles
    • Project drawing / model set up.
    • Floor plan cleanup / update.
    • Complete drafting mark ups
      • Convert designer markups to CAD or REVIT format meeting all BSE standards.
      • Provide feedback to designers when markups are incomplete or unclear.
      • Interact with designers to ask questions and obtain clarifications when necessary.
      • As markups are being drafted, highlight completed areas and note questions.
      • At the completion of the markup, print a hard copy and confirm all drafting is thoroughly completed. If items are not completed make adjustments prior to returning work to the designer.
      • Note actual hours required in the CAD scheduling spreadsheet adjacent to the scheduled hours.
    • Transfer of documents to clients.
    • Drawing scanning.
    • structural elements, architectural components, utilities, devices and equipment.
    • Assist the BIM / CAD manager and department head to create and modify department standards and details.
    • Adhere to the CAD / design checklists to increase efficiency, quality, and consistency
  • Design Intern – Secondary Roles
    • Basic design / layout tasks.
